Center for Healing & Wholeness

Foot Care Clinic

footThe Center for Healing & Wholeness began offering foot care clinics in 1999, and it's been a popular service ever since. Forty people enjoyed regular foot care appointments in the past year. A half-hour appointment includes the following services provided by a nurse:

  • Foot soak

  • Nail trimming

  • Comfort measure for ingrown nails

  • Corn/callous trimming

  • Soothing foot massage

  • Education on self care

  • Foot and lower leg assessment

Foot care is offered on the first Thursday of every month from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Center for Healing & Wholeness. The cost is $25, payable directly to the nurse. Now that we've brought in a third nurse, we can take up to 24 appointments during each clinic.

Foot care is especially important for people with diabetes or circulatory problems. But people who cannot comfortably bend down, have vision problems, lack hand strength, or simply want to pamper their feet also benefit. Some people come monthly for foot care; others come every two months.

Linda Pedersen and Kay Schlosser are our "original" foot care nurses, having done foot care here since the clinics began.

Nurse Linda

LINDALinda has been a nurse since 1968. She grew up on a farm near La Crosse and has raised 2 sons. After the March foot care clinic, Linda left for a week-long mission trip-her 6th-to Mexico, helping to build homes. She also enjoys RV travel with her husband. Linda finds foot care rewarding noting that her clients are like friends. She says she is inspired by the example of Jesus washing feet.

Nurse Kay

KAYKay also grew up on a farm, near Alexandria. She's been a nurse for 38 years. She has 2 grown sons as well. Sports are one of her interests, particularly baseball and football. She enjoys the church atmosphere here and says the folks she cares for are "the nicest people." Kay says sitting on the floor while she works puts her in a position to really listen to people's stories

Nurse Beca

becABeca Jones, a Twin Cities native, joined the team in January. Beca has been a nurse for 11 years, working in nursing homes and hospitals and in group homes with the developmentally disabled. She also keeps busy raising three children ranging in age from 8 months to 13 years. Of foot care, Beca says she especially enjoys socializing with older people while she tends to their feet.
